In case any of you enjoyed the earlier thread of coins with denomination 4, here are some coins with denomination 20. Many countries use the Spanish system of dividing the major unit into halves, quarters and eighths, so 25 seems to be a more common division than 20. Still, there are quite a few 20s out there. Please post your examples!

I attribute this to the fact that I am very old. I got this in change when I was in grade school.

    Germany, 20 Pfennig, 1875 F and 1887 A
I don't think these were minted for very long.
The 1875 F is .900 silver, and was made from 1873-77.
    The copper-nickel 1887 A was made from 1887-88.
    There was a later copper-nickel type from 1890-92 which I don't have.
Oddly, the silver ones are cheaper on average than the copper-nickel ones.

Those scratches on the face don't look accidental. They are too prominent and centered, and at right angles. I think someone didn't like King Luíz I.

    Austria 20 Kreuzer 1848
Silver, 26.0 mm, 6.65 gm, 0.583 fine, Vienna Mint
Catalog: Krause World Coins 1801-1900 number KM 2208, minted from 1837 to 1848

The Austria 20 Kreuzer coin was sometimes called the "Zwanziger" after the German word "zwanzig" which means "twenty".

A large number of zwanziger's ended up far from their Austrian home as travelers to California during the Gold Rush period (1849 to the 1850's) either brought them or had them shipped to California where they circulated as small change.

Zwanzigers are mentioned in several books about foreign coins circulating in California during the period.
