I am obsessed with these Medusa coins. If anyone had a spare they would like to part with please contact me. This thread just tipped the scale into my desire to pick up ancient coin collecting!!!!
I chose both obverses of helmeted Constantine and Herennius Etruscus, as well as Macrinus with reverse of the she-wolf resembling a panther that can suckle all Rome
The astronomical connections for All Hallows and the entire first week of November was the zenith culmination of the Pleiades at midnight in Northern latitudes. Hence the ancient European New Year and the change over to winter. Many people rooted in aboriginal Earth based teachings claim ancestry connected to the seven sisters and their mother Hathor in Egypt and numerous other aspects of the one goddess of goodness and womanhood and joy all over the globe. This includes the Hindu Aditi the divine mother of the Ashwins who are the twin dioscuri. The divine mother of all the gods-Kybele and Rhea and on and on. Here is her Greek form on a Roman provincial coin as Goddess of the crossroads, the triple faced Moon goddess Hecate. Later she was spun as the goddess of witchcraft and all the "dark magic" but that is was all part of the war against the Earth based wisdom traditions as the big religious movements wanted hegemony over the peoples. Just like a good slasher flick, ya gotta keep reviving the really spooky ones! Ever seen a severed/floating skull in a fire??? Or a golden Gorgon?!?! Before and after of the time when I told her she's cute but her sister is cuter! (Not my coin...sadly, obviously) How about a Galba fouree reminiscent of ol Chop Top from the 2nd chainsaw massacre movie!?!?! The goddess (I'm assuming this, as I've still not got an ID on the coin) certainly has a ghostly look about her as well...

Gotta love the creepy die engraving on this coin. Severed head. Zombie bishop. It looks like the king is rising from the grave.
