Glad to hear you like franklins. I have a set I started when I was a teen and just finished it 30 years later with the aquisition of a beautiful 1949-D CH.BU example. My new favorite is the Sacagawea Dollar. The coin is nice looking and has lower mintages than Franklin Halves. Some of the Proofs are low mintage.
au-unc peace dollars trades less then morgans but I think better looking coin, that gets less respect
In response to sleeper coins. Sacagawea Dollars are a HUGH Sleeper. 1. They do not circulate.(Paper dollar should have been removed long ago) 2.Mintages are lower than the Franklin Halves last made nearly 50 years ago. 3.As the population increases(more collectors)They will be harder to get 4.Nice looking design that is relatively cheap(key date 2001-s sells for $30 or so. 5.2008 P&D not made for circulation.1.8 million mintage of each approx. 6.Complete collection with all proofs in a Dansco book sells for a mere $200(29 coins)
Try finding an 1909-O Barber Quarter in a grade of VG or higher for anywhere close to Greysheet prices... if you do buy it immediately!!!! I've seen them go for 3-6x greysheet prices, not sure why they don't update the values???? Hope that First Spouse Gold coins get added to this list someday
could or should anyone take any of the info in this thread as any kind of investing advice? or is it just alot of smoke up sent up one's bum?
I agree with this, so much so that I have been "hoarding" them in all grades that I can find. Only no problem coins and to date have over 150. If they don't take off, I am sure they will not loose value, so a pretty safe "investment."
