What would make it a sleeper though? I don't think any cemmem is a sleeper and this one has been in the books since 1918. Ruben
The great thing about this forum is it's open to idea's and opions. First, the assertion about something being on the books is specious and could apply to all other coins mentioned in this thread. Second, I did a quick search for the commem and could not find it mentioned once. With all the Lincoln mania going on, 1909 this, VDB that, certainly a coin w/ a mintage of 100,000 and on obv of LIncoln designed by G. Morgan has a potential for increase in value. Thanks
In the case of real commems, they are very exposed and if it haven't had a driven increase of value yet, I doubt it will in the long term. I distinctly remember the sales piches for Colombian Dollars in 1992 and look at those prices today, Ruben
In my oppinion the buffalo nickel is undervalued for its beauty. I also like the shield nickels but the value is already there on those.
I have few of this one to sell I hope so! there silver half besides the 82 George Washington & 92-date Kennedy's Half
I would say the 1983 doubled die reverse is a real sleeper which hasn't woken up yet from it's coma. JC
I think that over time, older large coins attract more collectors than small coins, and circulation coins attract more collectors than proofs. So at some point in the future, high grade Ike dollars and also high grade Kennedy halves from some of the lower mintage years [like the mid-80s] might be more sought after than they are now.
Sorry ruben , just being a joker. I was referring to the 1936 Bridgeport commem with P.T. Barnum on it..." A sucker born every minute" My apology for not noticing your question until now.
why is that? I have a BU roll of them and I just never opened it. I got a full box of them from the bank so I just kept one roll. Are they selling for over face?
I'm thinking that the sleepers must be the 50's, 60's, and 70's proof sets as well as the westward nickel collection. Why else would I have so many of them? They certainly aren't appreciating in value.
American Platinum Eagles because of their beautiful changing reverse designs. There just aren't a lot of people collecting these. If the collector base goes up even just a little, their values will go up.
Proof Franklin Halves are HUGH Sleepers.1956 Proof Franklin has only 669.384 made and I just bought a NGC Slabbed PF66 coin for only $26.00. Have Fun! BUBAGS
