1) I think I picked it up somewhere in the Cranberry Glades, West Virginia. I could be wrong. Could well have been in the Grand Tetons. I can't remember :goofer: 2) A friend of my dad's went scuba diving with a team and found these in the bottom of either an old anoxic lake or a freshwater lake, I can't remember. Wish I could...they were begifted around 8 years ago now. I was very excited to say the least to hold such ancient things!!! I LOVE fossils. One of my goals in life is to find a trilobite fossil. I've loved those things ever since I was a little kid...like 7 years old. -Peter
Hello Peter, I got most of my rocks from the Earth also. Regarding the shark teeth, my brother in-law found most of his on the Gulf shores of Florida. I'm told that they have all but disapeared today. Here is a sample of sulphur. Very best regards, collect89
I do collect rocks but dont buy them (spent $5 so far) therefore I dont have any real nice specimens.
Here are 2 of my trilobites. That is a toned ASE for size comparison. And I also had 2 gems out to show someone and thought I would show them also as gemstones are my favorite "rocks" Here is an almost 9 ct. Spessartite "mandarin" garnet. close up and a 2 ct. Tsavorite garnet. It is in a "holder ring" as the person wanted a custom gold ring. I mainly have the stones. Hmmm, should have cleaned the stones better, dust spots Jim
#1 OK, How many people zoomed in to see the 1989 date on the toned ASE? #2 One of my favorite rocks is optical Calcite. It can come in various colors when other minerals are mixed with it. When it is clear, you can view objects through it & they looked doubled. Depicted is a doubled image of an 1958 cent. Optical Calcite provides an image similar to a class IV doubled die. Very best regards, collect89
Bet a 55/55 would look really awesome under a piece. My son has a nice piece somewhere. I only have the piece in my dichroscope. Jim
1958 doubled Calcite obverse Thats cool. Now would a thinner example produce less of a doubled look??? I don't know for certain but I would assume so. Very best regards, collect89
last rock post for me I found this large rock in Mt Ida Arkansas while I was taking a break from digging Quartz. I sat down to drink a Snapple & when I stuck my hammer to the ground it went "clink" just under the surface. It's so big that we had to use a turkey cooking pot to bleach-it in dilute Oxalic Acid. Very best regards, collect89
