How do we actually know if there were ANY minted. Perhaps there might be prototypes etc but never saw any news of them sold or even people holding an original "coin". In fact, this sounds like a gold bullion project if it's not legal tender in Malaysia.

Without an image, it's tough to say which coin you got, Aidan. There are several varieties of those rupees and legend arrangements are different on them.

If you know the Krause # for that coin, I can look for that in book and try to translate it for you.

I would agree on this. The coins don't sound like legal tender coinage.....

Jerome, the Kelantanese Government actually attempted to give these coins legal tender status, but the Malaysian Government said 'No'.

It seems that the Kelantanese Government went ahead & quietly began to release them into circulation. Some employers are actually paying their employees partly in Kelantanese Dinars,& partly in Ringgit.

I would like to get at least 1 of the 1/4 Dinar coins just to have Kelantan represented in my British Commonwealth collection.

The website wasn't working so I had to search through from cache

Are these the pictures that you are talking about Aidan:

It is so not funny that there are links referring to this site and there are no other sites backing anything that is said in there at the moment like this link here: http://www.answers.com/topic/kelantanese-dinar

IF SOMEONE ACTUALLY BOTHERED TO DO THE SEARCHING

    http://zainal-tajudin.fotopages.com/?&page=2

I'm NOT convienced that it's supposed to be called a coin. Even a news from Malaysia reports that it's not legal tender: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/9/14/nation/15430382&sec=nation

Chances are, Kelantan is hyping on the hope that they will be the ones hosting the islamic dinar. What is the purpose if it's not internationally accepted worldwide as a national currency or perhaps in this case, "state currency", or even the country that refused to call it legal tender? It is at best bullion at the moment until it's accepted by the public, transaction done in dinars and a proven history. A new currency doesn't just pop up in one day.

Gxseries, yes those are the pictures. In fact, they were actually posted on my website by another member.I reckon that someone should email those photos to Thomas Michael at michaelt@krause.com ,so that they can be listed in Krause's 'Unusual World Coins'.

If anyone has any information about coin dealers in both Malaysia & Singapore that are selling the Kelantanese coins, can you please send me an email or a PM?
