    Coins of the British Commonwealth - Malta.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of Malta,which have been issued since 1972.There are 1,000 Mils = 100 Cents = 1 Pound or 10 Mils = 1 Cent.Malta is planning to become a member state of the Euro-Zone in either 2008 or a few years later.If you have anything to contribute,including photos,please go right ahead & post.

    Coins of the British Commonwealth - Ionian Islands.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of the Ionian Islands,which were issued in 1814 & between 1819 & 1862.If you have anything to contribute,including photos,then please do go right ahead & post.The obverses on the majority of the Ionian Islands' coins that were issued under British rule depicts Britannia.The Greek inscription on the reverse,'Ionikon Kratos' translates to 'Ionian State'.

    Jerome,it is true that Cyprus was an Ottoman Turkish territory prior to 1878,but it has very strong ties to Great Britain since then,considering that Cyprus became a British Commonwealth member state in 1961,even though it became independent in 1960.

    Coins of the British Commonwealth - Pakistan.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of Pakistan,which have been issued since 1948.Between 1948 & 1960,there were 12 Annas in 1 Rupee.In 1961,Pakistan actually decimalised its currency twice - 100 Pice = 1 Rupee & then 100 Paisa = 1 Rupee.If you have anything to contribute to this section,including photos,then do go right ahead & post.

    Coins of the British Commonwealth - Sri Lanka.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of Sri Lanka,which have been issued since 1972,when the Dominion of Ceylon became a British Commonwealth republic & changed its name.There are 100 Cents in 1 Rupee.The Sri Lankan coins are very similar in design to the Cingalese coins of 1963-72,but the Kandyan Crown has been replaced by a wheel at the top of the Coat-of-Arms,& the inscription in the scroll has been accordingly amended.If you have anything to contribute,including photos,please do go right ahead & post.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of Ireland,whose issues of Crown coinage ceased to be struck in 1823,& its modern issues date from 1928.Although Ireland withdrew from the British Commonwealth in April 1949,its coins still remain very popular with British Commonwealth numismatists.Ireland is now a member state of the Euro-Zone & is issuing its first commemorative 2 Euros in 2007 as part of the Treaty of Rome 50th Anniversary coinage programme.If you have anything to contribute,including photos,please do go right ahead & post.

    Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the only coin Connaught ever had - a brass 1d. dated 1552,which was a contemporary forgery of the extremely rare Irish 1552 1/-.It was known by the nickname 'Bungal'.It is catalogued in Spink's 'Coins of Scotland,Ireland,& the Islands (Jersey,Guernsey,Man,& Lundy) 2nd.     Here's another British Commonwealth numismatic section.This time,it is about the coins of Zimbabwe,which were issued between 1980 & 2001.A coinage issue for 2002 has been reported,but not yet confirmed,due to the fact that Zimbabwe's coins have now been driven out of circulation,due to the hyperinflation.

    I picked up the 2001 $2 & $5 coins today.My boss had bought them in the other day.I was very pleased to see them.He let me have them for NZ$6,because these coins are well-circulated,but they are very tough to find.
