I know this is an old post but I think this coin from Mongolia is very cool!!!! http://mongolbank.blogspot.com/2011/04/ural-owl-strix-uralensis.html
Wow, the silver coin looks like it has gems of some sort in the eyes. I like the silver one. Not the gold one. Yeah, very nice coin.
Those gems are Swarovski elements. The design of the silver piece - with just the owl's face looking at you, I like a lot too, but adding such decorative pieces makes them a little tacky in my opinion. Here is one that was issued by (or for) Mongolia in 2008, with a "photo" of two snow leopards: http://www.coin-invest.li/products/details.asp?id_programm=206 Christian
Awwww Christian those little kitties are soooo cute. Yep, I am not a fan of rocks on my coins either. But this one (Owl) is an exception to my rule. I think this particular one enhances the coin. I think the Mongols have come a long way since they put out that gastly note with the "Guy with the Orange Juice Squeezer" on his head.
excellent coins, i only have 2 mongolian coins a 20 mongo and a proof silver 250 tugrik endagered wildlife coin.
Interesting how different Karl Marx's signature can look. Here is a piece from the GDR issued in 1983: http://www.muenzauktion.com/wendel/pic/5156.jpg Christian
