Tugrik - is a currency of Mongolia. It is big and very nice coins... 1. One tugrik 1971, aluminium-bronze. Subject: 50th Anniversary of the Socialist Revolution. 2. One tugrik 1981, aluminium-bronze. Subject: 60th Anniversary of the Socialist Revolution.
And my last mongolian coin: One tugrik 1981, aluminium-bronze. Subject: Soviet-Mongolian space flight.
Somewhat odd for me that they would use the very same design for two issues that are ten years apart. And yes, it is indeed interesting to view these circulation coins and "normal" commems from Mongolia. What I usually see in coin magazines around here (I'm in Germany) is those novelty and gimmick pieces which are obviously aimed at collectors only. (As for "Ulaanbaatar", well, we have had a trolls here lately. Who knows about this case ...) Christian
I have some Mongolian coins that are not mentioned above. They are listed below : http://giladzuckerman.webs.com/mercuguinness.html#MONGOLIA
I find the modern Mongolian coins very interesting. Thank you for posting. If you are interested in ancient coins written in the Mongol script, including a coin cast during the rule of Kublai Khan, please visit my web page on Yuan Dynasty coins. Gary
here you wrote that coin produced 1925. But old mongolian script number is "Bugd Nairamdahu Monggol Arad Ulus 15 on (People's republic of Mongolia. year 15). But in 1915 Mongolia was not People's republic.
Here you wrote "mint was in 1945" . But actual writing in the coin is 35 on which I assume the year the coin was minted. Most funny part is that Mongolia did not use Cyrillic alphavit until the second half of 40-ies
FYI. please check old mongolian script transliteration in following site. http://transliteration.eki.ee/pdf/Mongolian.pdf
