My father and, coincidentally enough, my mother-in-law are from Lübeck, Germany. My fathers side of the family hails from Lübeck at least as far back at 1783 and possibly even longer. I've considered but, have not as yet pursued, collecting coins from Lübeck. I have seen a few coins on eBay but haven't known anything about them. I realize this is a rather wide open topic but is there anything anybody could share with me about Lübeck coinage? I know that Lübeck was at one time a city state or Hansastadt - a member of the Hanseatic League of cities but I don't recall what era that was or how long that lasted. Anyway, I realize I probably need to get one of the Krause books that I've seen mentioned, although not by name, that I can recall.

Thanks.

P.S. After posting this message I decided maybe I should go see what Krause Publications has. I found this book: "Standard Catalog of German Coins 1601-Present, 2nd Edition". They have it marked down from $59 to $20 so I just ordered one. It is coming via media mail so now I get to wait 2 to 4 weeks. In the meantime 'm still interested in any information anybody might be willing to offer.
