Cool finds from a cool grandma! My grandmother used to run an egg farm outside of Breckenridge, Texas, and she sold locally. This was around the early 1960s. She kept all of the nice shiny silver coins in a little blue and gold metal box with slots on the top so you didn't have to open it to pop the coins inside. It is one of the few things I have from her, she is long gone now, but I treasure it and still keep my little stash of silver coins and whatever in there. It reminds me both of my Mom's sweet mother and my passion for collecting which it helped ignite.
Very nice addition! Some of those coins are quite attractive (providing no one cleans them with anything).
Very nice! Its fun to find a big hoard like that. When my grandma died in 2005 she had a hoard of coins that belonged to my Grandpa (died 30 years before) and it was fun going through that. There were about 15 Indian Head Cents, most of them were corroded but several different dates, 1852 Large Cent, 1867 and 1872 3 Cent Nickel, 1853 Half Dime, 1866 Shield Nickel, several Liberty Nickels (1883 No Cent, 1899, 1904 and other dates), 1930 Buffalo Nickel, one dateless one, 1911 and 1912 Barber Dime, 1898-O Barber Quarter, a dateless Standing Liberty Quarter, 1946 Walking Liberty Half, 1948D, 1952D and 1954 Franklin Halves, several 1921D and S Morgan Dollars, several 1922, D, and S Peace Dollars, 1923S Peace Dollar, 1926D Peace Dollar, 1879S Morgan, 1891S Morgan, 1931 Canada 5 Cent, France 5 France 1839 5 Franc, India 1917 1/4 Rupee, Mexico 1890 5 Centavo, and a Mexican 20 Centavo 1951 if I remember right. Plus there were 5 pieces of fractional currency, and some tokens, one of which said Army/Navy, another one from Muscatine Iowa. I never knew this hoard existed until after she died. My dad showed them to me. She was the type not to share this stuff, even if she knew I liked to collect coins.
well i looked closely at every coin with a loupe and found two 1878-S morgans with what is either a "blob" mint mark or rpm i'm not sure...but then again i was thinking it might be common since i found 2 of them
