Stalin and his henchman (Kaganovich) almost succeeded in making the Ukrainian people extinct 1929-34 Estimates have total killed/ straved to death at between 16-9 M. Later mass deportations/ ethnic cleansing in 1940s resulted in millions of Chechens/ Krim Tartars/ suffering horrible fates by comrade Beria's NKVD.
Unfortunately Russians suffered just about as much during Stalin's terror. In the west of Ukraine the Germans were welcomed and cheered on when they invaded. Little did they know that the situation suddenly went from very bad to incredibly bad. BTW "Iron" Lazar Kaganovich lived a very long life - until 1991 - the last of the "Old Bolsheviks". He and Vyacheslav Molotov both lived long after their political careers were sidelined when Khrushchev came to power. Most others like Beria were either executed or shipped off to rural Siberia in a sort of exile.
Too bad that the worst mass killer under Stalin never was brought to justice. NKVD General Vasily Blokhin holds the world record for state sponsered murder. He personally shot over 100K political so called "enemies of the state/ including 16K Polish officers at Katyn.
back to topic....Translyvania existed as a sovereign nation from 1526 following Battle of Mohacs/ where Sulieman devasted the Hungarian Army. Lajos II and most nobles where killed. A more modern, contemporary example. East German 20 Deutsche Mark coin, commemorating the demolition of the Berlin wall portion at the Brandenburg Gate on December 22, 1989. The "wall" separating East and West Berlin had, for all intents and purposes, been symbolically eradicated when the East German Government announced the lifting of travel restrictions between East and West Berlin on November 9, 1989. Pretty neat times then ... I was there at that time as an Air Force officer assigned to Tempelhof Central Airport (which was a magnificent, historical structure). I purchased the coin at the open air market in Berlin. Those open air markets were crazy if you were into coin collecting -- there'd be pots of loose change/coins, many very, very old, and you pay 5 Deutsche Marks for as many coins as you could fit into your hand grab. Found an old US 2 cent a nd seated liberty dime in one grab, along with some other old coins dating back to the 1600's in a couple of other grabs. Too bad I wasn't into coin collecting much then.
Kings of the Bosphorus see map. They where a client state allied with Rome/ their coinage has the Bosphoran on obv. the current Roman Emperor on reverse of coin. They are also dated in the BE calender. Here a couple of mine.
This is where Crimea, Russia, and Ukraine are today. My daughter-in-law is Ukrainian, so I am very familiar with it.

BOUILLON & SEDAN CONTINUED In 1642 Frederic-Maurice de la Tour, imprisoned for his role in the Cinq Mars plot, ceded all his Ardennes territories to the French crown. In 1675 Louis XIV took control of Bouillon and gave it in compensation to Godefroid-Maurice de la Tour. Under the Treaty of Nijmegen (1676) Liege lost all its rights to Bouillon. Beautifull examples/ back then there where skilled artisans working at mint centers, who took pride in their work. Today, most mints produce mediocre/ bland, so called "collector" coins Back in the 16/17/18/19 centuries they created coins intended for everyday commerce/ that looked like they where intended for "collector"/ go figure
