Since there is no thread for metal detecting coins here I wanted to start a running thread where I can share some of my better finds. At this time i am only collecting coins i dig but who knows what i may collect in the future. Here are a few of my favorites so far. Feel free to let me know what you think. We already discussed my bad luck of hitting the 1877 key date Indian head penny in my other thread[emoji17][emoji17] 1889 V nickel 1905 Barber half Sent from my SM-G9 50U using Tapatalk
Amazing finds. Where do you detect? I have a detector that I bought for finding my property boundary markers. I'm itching to take it out somewhere and look for buried treasure
I mostly hunt the older local parks. I have hunted a few old yards as well. It is very addictive for sure. Once I found my first silver coin I was hooked! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I. Need. A. Metal. Detector. Great finds I may save up for one in the future how much would a decent one of those cost? Thanks, Jacob
@detectorben I'm one of the Metal detectorists here on CoinTalk... Welcome to the forum! https://www.cointalk.com/threads/metal-detecting-2-gold-rings-spinner.300518/#post-2810059
It really depends on a lot of factors and your budget. There are tons of options. The best bang for your buck in my opinion is the Garrett at pro. That is one of my favorites. I have an AT Pro and a minelab Etrac. I learned on an old whites coinmaster that I still have as well. I found this Indian today with my Etrac. Awesome thanks! I see you use the ctx...very nice! Your on the east coast it sounds like so my finds will pale in comparison lol. I look forward to chatting more and seeing your finds. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Here is an update with my latest finds. Of course this Indian head is much nicer but not a key date. The V nickel is the best detail and condition I have dug yet. The buffalo has no date but I am soaking it now to trry and bring one out. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Here is my latest haul from today's hunt. Wheats are 1923 and 1957. The mercury dime was about 10 inches deep so I was pumped to pull it out. That is not easy to do on a dime in very dry hard soil. It has not rained here more than a sprinkle in several weeks. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Found my first seated coin today! Also found a few wheat pennies. I could not believe my eyes when I saw lady liberty sitting in the hole! Seated coins are very hard to come by in Nebraska considering it became a state in 1867. She is in pretty good shape for a dug coin too. This was one of my bucket list coins. It's been a while and I haven't found anything rare or exciting in the numismatic world but though I would share some recent finds. Thanks for looking!
Lol yep. It happens quite often when you are digging coins out of tree roots and dry rock hard clay soil. It is a very worn almost dateless coin dug from the ground so luckily it doesn't really have much numismatic value to begin with. I believe the SLQ is a 1920 from what I can tell due to the zero at the end of date and the type but if someone could confirm that theory that would be great.
I used to detect all the time, but I don’t have time anymore. These finds were from some old parks, old homestead sites now cellar holes, fields, and a sidewalk tear-out. Oldest coin I’ve found is the 1718 KGI halfpenny.
