Nice! You don't often see Cretan coins as well preserved as this one.

I don't think I have from an "I" mint. So I will just sit back and enjoy.

    Unfortunately, me too.:sorry:

The male heads and dolphin type seems heavily represented---and I just lost a mini-bidding war over one a few weeks ago...

    Gorgeous coins all!!

    IOL-CAESAREA
    upload_2015-5-16_10-52-40.png
    KINGDOM OF MAURETANIA, Juba II

    AR Denarius
    3.14g, 17.6mm
    Iol-Caesarea mint, 25 BC - 24 AD
    MAA 95; SNG Cop 579
O: REX IVBA, Diademed head right.
R: Cornucopia; transverse scepter in background, crescent to upper right.
    Ex Ronald J. Hansen Collection
Notes: Iol was the old Phoenician name of this coastal North African city. Juba II renamed it Caesarea when he made it the capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania, where he ruled with wife Cleopatra Selene, the daughter of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. I decided to include it here since it's occasionally referred to as Iol-Caesarea, and "I" seems to be needing some help.

    SALONINA

    AE22
    4.96g, 22.2mm
    TROAS, Ilium, 253 - 268 AD
Bellinger, Troy, T294; SNG Munich 279; SNG Cop 443.
O: CAΛΩNINA CEB, diademed and draped bust right.
R: IΛ-IE-ΩN, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Athena right, wearing aegis.
Notes: Ilium was the Latin name for Ilion, better known as Troy, the great Bronze Age city. The Trojan War is believed to have occured in the 13th or 12th century BC, and the 10-year siege and eventual fall of Troy serves as the setting for Homer's epic poem Iliad.

I don't believe there was a letter J in either ancient Greek or Latin...? So, K is next?

    I have Jerusalem????

I would say go ahead and post Jerusalem coins now, but I'm not moderating this thread. I don't know if it was even a city in Greek times, but it was known as Aelia Capitolina by the Romans from the 2nd century AD.

Thanks ancientnut, I will pass. I will do a bit more research, I have no idea where I got the designation from. It is the parasol and barley variety.

I don't know if Zumbly is around, but this is as good a time as any. No strict rules about it and I would like to see your coins!
