Coins as Architectural Ornaments

    This image from from a bank in Austin, Texas. A couple of months back, someone posted an image from San Antonio, but I cannot find that now. And way back a decade or more, there were some images of old bank buildings in Columbus, Ohio, with (as I recall) images based on the Walking Liberty Half (wrong year of issue, I think.).

    It would be interesting to gather these images. Barbara Gregory of The Numismatist expressed interest in a pictoral essay, if we can put the facts together to explain the images.

    The image you posted looks like St. George on his horse as he is battling the serpent.. which is missing.
    A famous image on tokens, medals and silver coins.
