Out of sight, out of mind approach works well with my GF. I ship everything to the office. For those who have wives who don't see the value of your hobby it could be worse for them. Tell them every hobby has expenses, and everyone should have a hobby they are interested in. If you were to take up golf you would need a new set of clubs, pay for greens fees and possibly a country club membership. Or if you were to take up fishing, you would likely spend money on a fishing boat, a truck to pull it with, plenty of gas for the boat and truck, and a bunch of fishing tackle. Plus, you will need extra time to hit the links or the lakes to get the most out of the hobby. The great thing about coin collecting, it's something you can do 365 days a year regardless of weather. It is something that is mostly confined to a few coin shows and flea markets, otherwise the time spent on your coin hobby is spent at home with the family. Also, it is a hobby that has less of a chance of deminished value and possibly can yield returns on investment. Coin collecting is one of the best ones out there for those who have families. A 50 year coin inheritance to your children is much better than a bag of old golf clubs and an old boat needing to be repaired all the time. If the kids disagree, at least they'll have the opportunity to cash in their inheritance and by new golf clubs or a fishing boat. Great stories by those posted above. I sell very expensive products to hobbists for a living, so the pointers above are some of the same pointers I offer to my customers whom must gain 'wife approval'. Good Luck!
