Just for the heck of it ran across Coin Vault on TV tonight and they are trying to peddle the Gold SLQ in NGC MS 70 for 799$ - aren't they still available from US Mint for 485$ (of course not graded but still?) They are actually comparing it to a true 1916 in NGC MS 62. Heck, they still have the Gold Dimes for sale.
Those shows are always good for a laugh... Although the MS 70 does tend to sell for above OGP price...still you can find the 70s cheaper on ebay (about 690 from several different sellers).
Even worse, ESN Direct has 2016 ASE proofs for $99.95 (graded 70 by a basement slabber) or $79.95 raw. They're still trying to unload the gold dimes for $499.
Rob Parsons on ESNDirect just explained how difficult it was to get a stash of gold SLQs with the household limit of one. Of course, he didn't mention the limit was waived and they were available from the Mint. Quite shameless about getting their employees on the phone to hoard them for flipping.
He passed away: http://www.thecoinvault.com/t-letter.aspx The show is still on but I believe it is now online only. HSN (coins) still broadcasts on their own TV channel.
