small dollars don't fit in H.E. Harris round tubes I ordered polypropylene round tubes from H.E. Harris. They are designed to hold 25 small dollars. However, the coins do not drop all the way to the bottom of the tube. They get stuck about 1/4 inch above the bottom. Has anyone else had this problem?
If you look at the picture on the brent-krueger site, they show one of the square tubes with a wrapped roll of sacs being inserted into it. It doesn't show whether the cap will fit on, but I've found that the square tubes usually have plenty of extra room.
They told me the caps will not fit on all the way with the paper rolls. I wanted the round clear tubes so I can see the edge lettering on the coins. The only clear tubes I can find hold only 20 coins, not 25.
Wait... I don't understand... You said that you wanted a tube that will accomodate a roll that still has its wrapper on... But, then you said you wanted a clear tube so that you will be able to see the edge lettering? Am I missing something?
Here's my solution. Wrap the roll in a polybag: ... then place the roll inside a coin tube that accomodates Morgans, Peace and Ike Dollars: VOILA! The roll doesn't move around within the coin tube and you can see the markings on the wrapper.
I didn't make clear that I'm talking about two different uses. I will keep the mint-wrapped rolls in the wrapper. The rolls I get form the banks I will remove from the wrapper. I noticed that in a clear styrene tube, the edge lettering on a whole stack of coins is quite striking (no pun intended). You can't appreciate it nearly as much through the translucent polypropylene tubes. I've more or less given up on the idea of finding a tube that will close securely with a complete roll in it. I think the only answer is to use a tube designed for a larger coin or to look for another source of clear tubes that aren't necessarily made for coins. I found one source so far, but the minimum order is 10,000 tubes. I'm not sure I can use that many.
I have brand new Medicine vials that really work I have coins in some for 10 years that are still perfect, better then some I have in coin tubes. I think the dark color of the vials help keep them better.
holders even the half dollar square tube can not fit the 25 coin prez. i used the dollar sq. tube then.
The big question for me is will paper from the wrappers do a bad number on the coins. I also have coins with the US MINT wrappers on them and will take them off in heart beat if I know they are hurting the coins
That depends on you and how you store them. Yes the paper rolls can cause some toning. But if you keep the coins in a cool, dark and dry place then it will be minimized. Humidity is the enemy, silica gel is a must. And maintaining the silica gel is just as important. I have known collectors that tested storing rolled coins for 15 years to 25 years - toning, even on rolled cents was minimal. But you have to maintain proper storage conditions.
Can you explain......... Why, if the mint issues small dollar coins in rolls of 25, does almost every tube available for small dollars hold 20 coins? Even the "official US Mint" coin tubes sold by Whitman/HE Harris hold only 20 coins. This is like the fact that hot dogs come in packs of 10 and the rolls come in packs of 8. Maybe you're supposed to spend 5 of the dollars and store the rest. Does anyone know the dimensions (diameter and height) of each size of HE Harris coin tubes? I can't find them listed anywhere.
cvs medicine tube i used cvs medicine tube and film roll tube for current circulated coins. it is good.
