You are sick man. You need help.

Okay....perhaps I'd be "sick" of Vegas if I were there four times a year, but I cannot imagine it. Such a fantastic place, where the laws of reality are suspended (until you show up on an episode of "Cops.")

I have not been to Vegas nearly as much as I "should" have. I hope to get there more. And I long for the day when I've been there and done that, and I don't need it any more.

It has been fun watching all the changes over the past 25 years.
Hotels come down and new ones come up.
Binnions used to have a million dollars in $10,000 bills on display.
I think it's gone now because some collector told them the bills were quite rare and they were. Because of the great images today, someone got caught cleaning them and offering them for sell. Always thought that a bit funny.

No one uses real dollar coins anymore. It's tokens or vouchers.
Even the metal tokens are going away.
Cash, chips, chets and vouchers are about all I see anymore.
I don't Gamble:rolleyes:, but miss the days of using Ike. dollars in the slots.

    Vegas Coin Shops

I shop in Vegas all the time. I collect in many different areas. The following is MY experience only. I am sure others will give diff opinions but this is what i have experienced.

    In no particular order.

American Coin Express (near the Meadows Mall)
Owner is Rick or Richard. I have bought a few coins here. Not much selection and about 1/3rd of coins have trouble of one type or the other. You can buy coins for less than trends. Will occasionally make a deal but it seems if they have any high end coins i have never seen them. Place is always kinda dirty. Maybe 100k in stock of collector coins.

Fort Knox (also known as Carlino's) (Sahara and Boulder Hwy)
I am amazed every time i go in here at the mess. Very knowledgeable guy. As old as dirt and has the coin knowledge to prove it. Makes deals for cash (no sales tax if you spend a lot (2k or more) and really press but no invoice either). Don't really know if it is included in the final price...Always says he can get really high end coins but really don't see them there often enough to make me want to spend a lot of time there. Basically one man show. Maybe 100-150k of collector coins in stock.

    Franks Coin Shop (Riviera casino)
I have bought coins here. They cater to the tourists primarily. The coins they carry are really not so much collector coins as a brick & mortor version of Coin TV Sales channels. Read in here what you will. Needle in a haystack type search for really cool coins.

Nevada Coin Mart (east of Sahara a few blocks)
Out of business. Too Bad! I loved this shop. Built like a bank vault. Amazing selection. Nice people and lots of them. Higher prices but you pay for quality and selection. Miss ya.

Sahara Coins (about 7 miles west of the strip on Sahara)
This place is my favorite for several reasons. When you walk in the store they have a river of coins and currency flowing through the floor that is worth about 200k (IN THE FLOOR!). Older guy named Jeff who knows more about early copper than i ever will. Collector at heart...Mark is the owner. Nice guy but always seems to be running around busy so hard to pin down but when you get him to talk to you he is all coinguy. all told they have about 7 people working there. They have about $3-$5 million worth of coins in stock. Just the silver dollar set they have is 1.1 million or so all in PCGS (last time i asked). I was just there Monday and they had a 1895 Morgan Dollar in Proof 67DCAM!, 1932, 1927-D, 1909/8 Saints All in MS65! They had 7 Morgans in PCGS MS68! I think you get the idea. I tell you the truth I wish these guys would go belly up (because i spend 2k a month there minimum). Prices are really fair (they are about 10% less than Coin world trends across the board however i do catch them pricing something wayyyy to cheap example is a saint that a friend told me had a greysheet wholesale price of 50k for 45k or so. I have never seen that in any other coin shop or even at a show) (Every time i ask a dealer if he will sell to me at greysheet he just laughs at me. If i had the dough i would have bought it). the selection is amazing and they have so much inventory that they can't keep up with the price changes so diligence pays off here. Wait until the prices move and cherry pick em. I don't think they care they are so busy all the time. I have to cut out of work early because they close at 4:30 during the week though.

Anyway just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.

The American Coin Express on Sunset and Pecos is a much nicer store than the one on Meadows. Same owner, Andrew, better selection and about five times larger. Just some updated info as that store is fairly new. Supposedly they are opening one on Sahara somewhere. My friend is eventually opening up a new one on East Charlston near the Red Rock sometime later this year as well.

There are still a very few of the smaller casinos that have some coin operated slot machines. One is at Railroad Pass on the Boulder Highway. I believe there are a few down in Henderson too.

I have not done business with any local shops in years. I prefer trading in Los Angeles.

    Good luck !

Talk about changes ? I was at the Southpoint recently. Asked a security guard where the men's rooms were. He told me "Across from the man on a horse". It was the statue of Binion on his horse that they took from downtown ! I nearly fell over, not only because he wasn't named, but that his statue had been relocated. And the $1,000,000 cash display at the Horseshoe is a stack of $100 bills in a plastic box ! My son told me the cashier's cages no longer accept coins for exchange. Go figure ?

You should have asked Patrick (Frank's brother) if he had anything in the back room.
