Heading out to Vegas for a week...

Anyone know of any good stores in Vegas ? I have to imagine most Vegas coin stores would have a great collection of silver dollars for sale...

Anyone here collect antique casino chips ?

I checked out a Vegas pawn shop when I went back in 1998. The prices were not all that good and many of the coins there were "problem" coins. I'm sure this is not the case with all of the pawn shops, but that was my experience in one particular pawn shop.

Check out American Coin Express. My friend manages the location on Meadows, but they also have a store on Sunset. As far as prices go they are the best in Southern Nevada.

You're going to Vegas, and you're going to be hanging out in coin shops?

I try to go to coin shops in any city to which I travel, but Vegas? Come on, man.....

Guess he'd rather bring money home than leave it behind :D

He'll still be leaving it behind -- just at the coin shop instead of the casino :)

If I were going to Vegas I would definitely check out Silver & Gold Pawn.

They are the ones on the History Channels Pawn Stars. I am not saying you would buy anything, but I would be curious as to the prices of their coins. Plus it is just bragging rights to say you were there.

By the way, the last time I was in Vegas I just walked up to the casino door and threw all my money in ... saved both the casino and myself a lot of time!

That's all there is left to do. I just got back from my first trip to Sin City in several years, and found out it is no longer a viable source for searching large quantities of change!

I saw absolutely no slots that accepted coins - just currency with payouts in the form of voucher tickets to take to the cashier! I'm not even sure the casino cashiers are still an available alternative to Coinstar for getting rid of large pocket change hoards.

It's always hit or miss there. I've been going in there long before the show, as well as other pawn shops, and coins don't seem to be their thing. I did buy about 50 dvd's there for $10 one time to take to our summer home, so that was a good deal.

At Wynn's casino there is a coffee shop right outside the hallway where you go to see the shows. They give out 09 Lincolns in change.

I'm there four times a year and I'm sick of the place.
There is a really nice shop a few miles west of the strip.
I'm thinking it's called Sahara Coin? They used to have a ton of nice stuff.
There also used to be a shop in the Rivera Hotel. Franks Coin??
Most of the coins I have looked at in Vegas were priced a bit high IMO.

That pretty much describes Sahara Coins perfectly.

Most of the coins I've seen in Reno & Vegas were way over priced junk. Guess they bank on tourists thinking like we did, this must be the place to find silver dollars, as it used to be when they were used in casinos. Anyway, I'm sure there are reputable dealers in Vegas (if you believe there are reputable dealers), probably just not in the tourist areas.

There is a small casino right next to Circus Circus thaqt still has machines that all use coins. I do not remember if they had dollar machines but I know they had quarter and half dollar machines. This was just a few months back so I am sure it is still there. It is one of the little dive casinos just left of Circus Circus as you face it.

Ok, ok, you can use coins there. But, did you win anything there? lol

Hehe, I just walked through it but if you were trying to search "vegas coins" you could drop a few $20's in the machine and cash out right away to see if any silver ends up in your bucket.
