Hey Folks, I had the pleasure of @micbraun ’s company while visiting a local coin show in Tienen, Belgium. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of dealers and variety of coins offered. The dealers were generally split into four categories: world coins, euros/moderns, medals/tokens, and ancients. I spent the bulk of my time perusing the world coin areas and was surprised to see a dealer that had a decent share of US coins, to include an 1874 5 cent piece that looked like a solid AU. Unfortunately, it was not one of the DDOs, and I wasn’t ready to unload €200 on it. Instead, I settled on an uncirculated George Washington half dollar for under silver melt, and a nice, uncirculated 1889 1/4 real from Guatemala. The color didn’t come out well in the close ups, but you can see the clashes on both sides. I also picked up this coin here for €1, against Mike’s advice. There’s just something really cool about holding thick copper coins that are a couple hundred years old. My memory isn’t what it used to be, so I haven’t discerned what it is yet, so feel free to help me narrow it down! It weighs slightly over 13 grams. Lastly, I could not stop myself from buying two bags totaling about 44 lbs in world coins. They seemed like a majority of modern European coins, but there’s a local Boy Scout troop that I bet would love to have them all earn their coin collecting merit badges. I’ll dig through these bags, let the Scouts have their way with them, and then see about selling the rest off. Thanks for stopping to visit @micbraun and giving me an excuse to go visit a coin show!
I was surprised when @Seattlite86 told me he found a dealer who had a couple of Bust halves for sale. I even got excited for a moment when I noticed one of them wasn’t cleaned and had a description on the cardboard holder saying « 1823 - broken 3 » …well after looking at it more closely it turned out somebody got the attribution wrong, it wasn’t the O-101 but the O-107 with a regular 3. Still, it was great to go to a coin show with a CT friend, as I haven’t been active in a while. Now I’ll have to find one of the major 1823 varieties…
Good on you. Next stop Jump School, or have you already earned your Wings? (C'mon, you know you have to do that to get right with God....).
I will accept you, on the basis of honesty and integrity. BUT....do so ASAP. It counts when the Full Bird and the Star qualification apps are reviewed.
I appreciate the advice. Though I’m not Infantry, so they’re a little gentler with us for not having jumped out of perfectly good airplanes. If I have the chance, I will most certainly go.
