Last Sunday I went to one of the many coin shows around here. Minimum of 3 a Month. This one is in a place called Countryside, Illinois. As usual I go to these shows with nothing special in mind but take a list of coins I sure would like to replace in my collections if the prices are right. They seldom are so I usually come home with a few magazines. The admittance is free, parking is free, coffee is expensive and not worth anything except cleaning out a sewer. Front table as usual had free copies of Coin World, Numismatic News, World Coin News, pamphlets on upcoming shows, some candy, etc. I took one of each and put them in my car. As usual about 80 dealers and still most setting up at 9AM. Finally sat down by one dealer I know and said not interested in anything, just resting. He then pulled out a Mercury Dime Album, Washington Quarter Album, said he just purchased them last week and so far no one else has seen them. Every single coin was in MS something or other. Every single Mercury Dime in MS60 or better including all of them. Sure wish I had the money but I made a list of the ones I thought I could afford and so did the guy next to me. Weirdo had pretty much the same list I had. I was first but he may have been a better customer and sure had more money. The 16D he grabbed for $6,000. He took the 27D I wanted but I did get about 10 of them for about $1,000. A few Washingtons in the early 34 area and time for me to go home and bar-b-que. The dealer told me he bought the entire two sets for what he just got for that one Merc Dime. After that I walked around looking at coins I should have, could have, would have bought but the cash flow was gone. This coin show is one of the farthest for me to travel to at about 12 miles. Next sunday there is one about 10 miles but only about one third the dealers. That same dealer with those Merc's will be there so I may have to rob a bank or something for more money unless they are all gone.
