I sat down and looked through Ed&#039;s (the dealer) box of classic commems. He doesn&#039;t have that many, and I&#039;ve been through that box more than a couple of times. He&#039;s got a nice raw (actually, they&#039;re all raw) Hawaiian that I always look at. Nice AU but too pricey at the moment. The box has other coins mixed in as well, but I don&#039;t pay too much attention. I pick out a Columbian and two Sesquicentennial(s) of American Independence. One&#039;s nice blast white but no cartwheel effect. Possible over dip or cleaning? Frank confirms my suspicions. The other piece has more natural surfaces and a little more character in my opinion.&nbsp; I pass on the Columbian and the cleaned Sesqui and opt for the one that beacons me. The conjoined busts of of Washington and Coolidge reside on the obverse and mark the first time that a portrait of a president appeared on a coin during his lifetime. The reverse bears the depiction of the Liberty Bell and many will recognize that same design on the more modern Franklin Half Dollar. The dies were prepared in low relief, so sadly, much of the coins detail was lost, but this example does appear fairly well struck. I&#039;d put this piece at a fairly low AU/high XF.</p><p><br /></p><p>Along with the commems in the box there were a few Civil War Tokens that I found fairly interesting. This would be my first collected example and I know absolutely nothing about it.
