Hey guys! I was at the show this weekend too. I wish we would've all known. We could have hooked up. I thought the show was real nice on Saturday. They're a bit crammed for space in their current configuration. I even heard one of the people from the St. Louis Numismatic Association (who put the show on) saying to another member, "We have GOT to find another place to hold this next year." So keep your eyes peeled. I also went back on Sunday and it was flat out dead. Maybe 1/3 of the dealers or so showed up. Oh well.

Now, for some interesting things I saw at the show:

1. I saw two dealers that specialized in Rainbow toned coins. All you guys that like those Rainbow toned Morgans, Peace dollars, Proof Indian cents, etc. would have been drooling all over yourselves. I have not been into those before, but WOW, there were some beauties! All certified by PCGS or NGC.

2. I enjoyed looking at a High Relief Double Eagle that a dealer was offering.

3. I saw one dealer had a couple of the 1857-S Double Eagles from the S.S. Central America shipwreck. Those were kind of neat to see.

4. I saw a 1795 $10 Eagle casually laying in a case just mixed in with other coins with the price $52,500 on it. Wow! It's neat to see those high priced coins/rarities!

5. I always find the amount of money (not mine, trust me) floating around coin shows fascinating. I was looking in a dealer's case, standing next to a guy who just did a deal with the dealer. The guy paid the dealer, casually threw the couple of high dollar coins down in a bank zipper bag, then put his rubber band around what I could clearly see was a stack of hundreds about an inch thick and tossed that down in the bag...WOW! I will never be in that category!

6. And that brings me to my last observation...for all of you that like your coins displayed in slabs, you probably are like me and like the slabs to have relatively few scratches, scuffs, etc. on them. Let me tell you why they're all scratched up. I saw lots of people buying coins and just tossing them into bags with other slabs all banging around together. In the mix was all kinds of other stuff too, stapled 2x2s, money with paper clips, pens, and all kinds of other stuff to scratch the slabs up.

The Central States Show in May will be huge, much bigger than this one. I will try to make it up for that one too. I highly recommend attending it if you get the chance.
