I for one didn't get into coin collecting to become a government tax code bureaucracy expert.

Proper etiquette would be to wait until he is not busy and ask he would sign it. Probably 99+% of the time he will say yes, then you can hand him the book. In short ask first, then shove. :)

I was talking about Dealer to Dealer sales tax. Dealers are in business, and as such, unfortunately, there are laws they must follow. Even personally every state puts the onus on the taxpayer as well. Did you know legally you are supposed to pay Use tax to your state for everything you buy from out of state? Most taxpayers don't know that, and technically they are all breaking the law.

Making you a sales tax expert has already been done to you by your state legislature I am afraid. Talk to them. :( I am but a friendly messenger here.

My question would be why would you ask Rick Snow to autograph his book using John Hancocks name? LOL..

I hear you medoraman. I, like everyone here is painfully aware of what the rules might be in regards to taxes. I happen to be lucky enough to live in a state that has no sales tax on numismatic coins and bullion so therefore I am under no obligation to pay sales tax if the point of delivery is my home. Sometimes I buy on Heritage, Teletrade, or eBay and I don't pay it. Sometimes I privately buy a coin from a buddy and I don't pay it. Sometimes I go to a show or a shop out of state and I have to pay sometimes. Doesn't matter if I'm bringing cash or check. What I was trying to say with my last post was that I don't get too hung up on if I'm going to pay it or not. I'll continue to buy bullion in South Dakota, but I wouldn't let sales tax undo a deal on a rare coin that I wanted to own.

Thanks, Charmy. All this talk of shows really makes me want to break away and get to the Chicago show or someplace else real soon.
