Coin Shops: What would you do?

I have known a few dealers that hate dealing with these sets. They come in all the time in large quantities. It's also possible the dealer did not own the sets yet or he has a special customer that gets first shot at searching the sets. It could be that the dealer wants to search them first. Could be many things but the dealer should have had more to say to a cash paying customer.

Perhaps if it had been made it clear that you were a buyer (as opposed to a window shopping picker), and assuming that the coins were not earmarked for someone else, he would have been more willing to show them. This is not so much meant to defend his actions or in any way criticize yours, but I get the feeling that there are likely a few reasons for his refusal: the first is that he probably does not trust every unknown who walks in the door, which is an unfortunate reality in this business. Also, most sets are low demand and low return material, and since he is a businessman who had four other customers, he may have had to set his priorities. Now, while I do not have a problem with pickers, we must realize that there are people who will gladly spend hour after hour digging through inventory, and only purchase if they find that needle in a haystack. While this too may be part of the business, it can be very time consuming, especially for a dealer who - for whatever reason - feels as if he should watch over even low-dollar inventory when handed by unknown customers.

Again, since I do not know this gentleman, I cannot and will not defend his customer service as there are better ways to handle this type of situation, but right or wrong, he may have had good reasons for his not wanting to show the sets.
