I have mixed feelings because of where I've been. And where I go.

I joyfully spend much time in prison. I volunteer for the Kairos prison ministry. We serve our Brothers in White at Ferguson Unit - maximum security - Madisonville, Texas.

I understand where everyone is coming from, and totally support your right to Keep and Bear Arms. It's a good thing.

But I gotta tell ya... I am very surprised at how many fellows in prison are basically good guys. I know you think I'm crazy. Maybe I am.

I know one guy who walked in on his mom while she was rigging up. She beat him down... but once again forgot to lock the door. She passed out, and he walked in again. He decided to take a little sample of his own.

Bam. Addicted to heroin. 8 years old.

Is it entirely his fault ?

Have mercy, brothers. Grace is costly.

That may be what he told you and wanted you to believe, but pardon me for not believing that story. Addicted at 8 years old? How did he continue scoring his fixes?

Everyone makes choices. For every instance of childhood influences supposedly leading to adult crime I'll show you 10,000 instances of people with the same influences that grew up as fine, upstanding and law abiding citizens.

I applaud you for doing the job you do but there are few truly innocent people in jail and it's their choices that led them there.

If I told you I would have to kill you. My news gathering methods are proprietary.

What kind of genius attempts to rob a gun store? Where the employees are very likely to have, you know, guns?! Seriously, I'm glad natural selection took its course.

Reminds me of the hilarious scene in Robocop 3 where somebody tried to rob a dount store. All of the about 30 cops simultaneously pointed their laser sighted guns at him, while the clerk asked him "So what's it feel like to be a rocket scientist?"

You're so right. So many people are very quick to want to hang everyone. Not all crimes deserve the death penalty.

...In this case however, if you point a gun at someone like that and they pull their own piece and take you out, you had it coming.

Put me on that list, I'm an Ohio CC permit holder and I'm ALWAYS packing. I also have guns scattered throughout my house, out of sight and, of couse, out of reach of children. May God have mercy on the soul that attempts to rob me....he's going to need it because I'll show NO mercy.

I'm usually very much more cut and dry when it comes to my position on gun control laws. Banned hand gun laws equates to less violent crime. Remember, I said LESS, and HANDGUNS.

In this particular case, Im so glad the shop owner was able to prevail, and quite frankley I don't give one iota about the end result as far as the dead criminal goes. I hope they catch the other S.O.B.
After reading this story, I'm now much more confused what is the ideal solution is, and what my position is.:headbang:

Im kind of confused...check this out...

"Police identified the injured man as 26-year-old Michael Anthony Watkins Jr. Watkins suffered gunshot wounds to his left leg and buttocks. He was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said."

Are those considered life threatening injuries? Ya have to wonder if he bled to death or something..
BTW, google the guys name...there more to the story, ie) description of the other suspect, they found their hand gun..etc.

Please don't take killing so casually.

It always concerns me when persons think it is "right thing to do" to kill someone for any reason even robbery, rape or murder. It may be the "only thing left to do" but it is not always the right thing or even the most desired outcome.
Now I am a walking contradiction because yes I am very liberal but I do believe in the right to own firearms and use them to stop violent acts. What I don't believe in is a subject like this being posted and people jumping on this with a "less than fully thought out" type attitude.
I mean you'all be honest with yourselves and tell me "are you guys experts on killing"? Do you think any killing is a reason to celebrate. Don't you know that any killing however justified will affect the shooter and his family and probably many more for their entire life. It is not something we should ever take lightly.
It seems to me that this fear of "taking our guns away" or always "letting the criminals go free" type of outrage is fear mongering and it's been the same thing all my life. The Govt. has never even come close to taking our guns away really now have they?
My God you guys do you really think that your so called vigilante type attitude is helpful or even needed truthfully? Is it really any different today than it has ever been or are we slaves to the media hyperbol constantly bantering us with fear based thoughts and news spin?
I don't take the killing of any human being lightly nor should you - it is a serious matter and you better pray you never have to do it regardless of the circumstances - it something that will haunt you the rest of your lives.
A killing is the end of a life and the very life could be your brother, your cousin, you mother or father.
We should not parade on here with a causal attitude regarding such a serious issue.
In the end coins are just stuff, I would gladly give them to someone before having to end a life if given the choice.

My response is and was not a casual one. Yes taking a life is a tragedy and if your ever faced or have done so, you know what its about. In this case the criminals came in with guns loaded and being shown, to me that constitutes a threat on life. Yes the crooks families are suffering, yes the crook is dead. What about the innocent people who were traumatized having a gun pointed at them, what about the families of those victims? My contention is that I will NOT take a life over property. However with that being said, if somebody points a gun at me or I feel that a life is in danger, yes it is time to pull my handgun. Once my handgun is pulled it will be fired, I am not into threats or warnings or any of that crap the situation is already past the "negotiation" stage.
