http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CB...sc_df_B00CB389RA2708525&tag=thefind0229950-20 I have been.thinking of buying a coin ring, perhaps a $5 gold bullion 1/10 eagle. I found this and wanted some opinions on it. For $179 it seems like a good price, but i wanted a 1990 eagle but that alone is almost $150. Does anyone have one or know where to get one made. Edit.....just saw its plated. If anyone knows please answer questions anyway.Disregard the link
I was going to say.....for that price, something is not right. But if You ever happen to come across the 1990 eagle that You want, I know of a goldsmith that can do just about anything imaginable. He makes custom rings every year for people and He`s really reasonable. (no joke) Just hit me up on here if You`re ever serious about it.
Got this ring at an estate auction that had a lot of jewelry. Paid $400 for it, had it appraised and it came back $1500. Not too bad I'd say. I have kept it for myself as I like the ring. It's cool with the diamond in it but they did ruin a real US gold coin doing it. I have never been able to tell the date of the coins, unfortunately. So you might keep your eyes open for estate sales if you live in the Eastern half of the US. Out towards Calif they don't seem to have auctions like they do here in the east.
I wouldn't buy it for several reasons. The primary reason is 24K plating will wear off very quickly. You wind up with a ratty looking ring. Somewhere around here are a couple of threads describing rings made from coins and who makes them. I bought a pristine Walking LIberty half dollar that I was going to have made into a ring but got sidetracked. When I get the time I look for the thread then post it her. Mike
