$2 to $3 would be fair.

There are alot of things you might want to think through before you start this business.
First off---how are you going to prove that the coin that such and so gave you is the same coin you gave back...and how about proving that you didn't drop it and give it that rim bump. Insureance is a must in this type of work I would say. I'm not trying to talk you out of doing this....heck....I'm running 2 businesses myself! But remember taxes....business license (That is what I'm working on right now---trying to find out if a hobby that makes alittle here and there needs a license....) and so on. Also---one tip I would give is to use your OWN name...or if you want to use something else start it as a DBA (Doing Business As), this will help you licenes, bank accounts, and some other things. Where I hope to one day run for office, I'm running my businesses by my name...it gets my name out there and people will see it for at least 6 years before I ever run for anything!

What do you mean? I just going to advertise it to my local coin club and local dealers. Just a little cash on the side, not a buisiness.

That is the same thing I'm running into---some places seem to think of that kind of thing as a hobby....and therefor not a business. But when you get into the law it seems that it is a business and therefor is subject to everything I listed above. The Gov. is going to tax each and every dollar you and I make....but then I guess that is life.

I'll send you an PM here in a min....

FWIW, you never need a license to conduct business.

I found an online tutorial that illustrates a lot of the steps. It's obviously designed to sell the equipment but the setup is not expensive and it looks like it works well. The only thing not really clear is how to achieve macro focus. On cameras with removable lenses, you can do this by using a macro adapter which moves the lens farther from the body of the camera or by using a dedicated macro lens. Either way, the lighting and the use of a copy stand to get the right angle and avoid movement appear to be the key elements.
