I'm going to try to post one coin each day about something fun. Feel free to add to the thread with something related. We see so many post about doubled die coins, I thought it would be fun to post one you can actually see. I can't think of a more famous doubled die than the 1955 Lincoln cent. Not too long after they were discovered, folks started selling the Poor Mans double die cent. I'm not sure if they were caused by machine doubling or simply worn out dies. The drawing below was made by Charles Daughtrey, Coppercoins.com. Cool guy. If you guys see him at a show, take time to chat with him. To me he is the best Lincoln expert out there.
Thank you! That is the probably one of the first times I've actually been able to see the doubling. Those photos in the Red Book leave me mystified; "Doubling? Where's the doubling?"
Nice thread you started. Did you notice that on the advertisement you posted the coin advertised was for a 1955 "Poor Man's Doubled Die"?
