Coin Wold Advertising Policies There have been several threads over the years asking if various advertisers in con magazines are responsible in grading and pricing. I’m not certain, however. That coin World actually does have a policy with regard to returns and grading claim by advertisers which is listed with the index of advertisers. I’ve never seen it on line but it exists in print as follows: Policy For Advertising Uncirculated Coins: Coin World though its advertising space provides a marketplace which brings together buyers and sellers of numismatic items. Dealers use various grading standards generally accept in today’s numismatic marketplace. Dealers are required to state in their Coin Wold advertisement which standard they use. Coin World recognizes that grading coins is subjective and that the use of numbers and/or adjectives that describe the grade of a coin may need clarification. Because of the number of generally accepted grading standards in use today, Coin World has adopted minimum standards for grading terms used in Coin World advertisements in order that buyers and sellers can better communicate.

Borderline Uncirculated must be a minimum must be a minimum of AU-55 and con not be abbreviated as BU.
Uncirculated, Brilliant Uncirculated of Select Uncirculated must be a minimum of Mint State 60.
Commercially Graded Uncirculated must be a minimum of Mint State 60.
Choice Uncirculated or Choice Brilliant Uncirculated must be a minimum of Mint State 63.
Gem Uncirculated or Gem Brilliant Uncirculated must be a minimum of Mint State 65.
Superb Gem Unbrilliant Uncirculated or superb Brilliant Uncirculated must be a minimum Mint State 67.
Split grades such as MS-63/65 or MS-60/63 must fall back into the lowest adjective level.
Other terms in advertisements appearing in Coin World should be viewed as a reflection of the seller’s opinion and his way of communicating more fully his opinion of the coin’s condition. Coin World reserves the right to monitor the merchandise offered by advertisers through the Coin World checking service. Any Advertiser placing an advertisement in Coin World agrees to adhere to these minimum standards. Advertisers found in violation may have their advertising privileges suspended or revoked. Revised as of 1/06/1997 Issue.
There are further standards on return policies (within 5 days of receiving the merchandise) . So when there are complaints as to the grades and treatment of various dealer advertisements in Coin World at least, you should be aware that in theory you have some grounds to complain and hopefully get satisfaction.
