TypeCoin971793 Just a random guy on the internet

I love the patina on that one.

I think you found a far nicer example

There are a couple of hammered English coins that I missed bidding on that I still regret. The first is a lovely Edward III series C groat. It isn't rare, but man is it beautiful. I was traveling with my wife, stuck in an airplane, when the auction ended and was the under bidder.

The other is a very rare transitional treaty half groat of Edward III. I'm not sure I could have won it but sitting in an all morning mandatory training made sure I didn't have the chance.

@Terence Cheesman I wish my "consolation prizes" were all even more appealing than the initial object of desire, dunno how ya do it but it seems like a successful system!

@TheRed That Ed III groat is extraordinary, I've been lazily collecting Medieval English pennies and that hammered is an eye-catcher, I'm not sure whether to thank or curse you for igniting a desire to own one like it! :p

For those of you who've had eBay sniping backfire (phone bidding has consistently been unreliable for me also), I wholeheartedly recommend the gixen.com sniping service. For free you can have it snipe at 6 seconds from 1 server, or for the paltry 6 dollar yearly subscription have the snipes set at whatever interval you want and submitted from 2 separate servers, to mitigate any possible outages that may affect one or the other. It paid for itself with the first win and is indispensable if you like buying on eBay but also have a job/life to attend to.
