The reason I use Excel is that it is quick and easy. I have been using spreadsheet software ever since computers were available to the masses which I think, was about 1983. Part of my job at a university was to prepare an annual Financial Report. I used spreadsheet papers 11"x 17" which sometime, I have to tape some pages together to include all my information. After I had prepared my pencil and paper reports and summaries, I submitted them to the Vice-Chancellor of Business Affairs. He, then, had his secretary type it out. With my worksheets, I had included a summary report for the University of North Carolina General Administration.

I was in love with the first spreadsheet software that came out. That started me out with using spreadsheet software.

Before I make a change in how I maintain an inventory of my collection, I would love to have a list of Coin Collecting Software and their cost. Then, I would do an in-depth study of each software package. My thoughts are that once a software package is purchased, the coins will all have to be input into the software, which would probably take many of us a great deal of time to complete that task. As you learn more about the capabilities of the software, more information will have to be collected and entered. Each new purchase will have to be categorized and entered. My question would be, "How much time will you spend building the database you want in one of the coin softwares?" Also, after everyone of your coins are in the system, how frequently will you need to look at your coins and how much of the coin you are interested in.

My papa always told me when I wanted to do something to "KISS".

Before you purchase any software, do a lot of searching and evaluating each one. After all, the coins are your responsibility and only you will be developing, entering, and looking at your collection. Best of luck on those that have already made their choice as well as to those that will making a difficult choice on how you want to maintain your inventory of your coins.
