I have 2 very beautiful 2010 silver Chinese Panda coins, and i was thinking of having one of them graded. Now I mostly buy all my silver for investment purposes but thought id do it to give it a little more value and because it seems fun to have a nice shiny graded coin but what I to know is how much something like this would cost me. Im probably going to have to take it to a autherized dealer but wanted an idea before commiting.
It's gonna cost you more than the coin is worth. Leave it "raw". Modern bullion issues are not worth slabbing for investment purposes. Enjoy the merits of the coin as it stands....
I figured as much and will most likely leave it "raw" as you so stated but id still like to know what it would cost just as personal reference and for educational purposes. The coins are beautiful though.
It's gonna cost you in the neighborhood of $30-$40. Couple that with what you paid for your "treasure". Now try to turn that baby around and make a profit. Depending on the grade that the coin comes back you could very well earn a profit on the open market. But in order to do that the coin has to come back nearly perfect. A '70 indeed. Now I'm askin' ya Joey....are you feelin' lucky? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnMLGkj91Og
tell you the truth, i am new to this but have done some research and thanks to this forum i have looked at these coins very close and they do look like winners, bought them from NWT.com were i buy most of my silver, came in an air tight holder and bubble wrapped. 30-40 dollars don't sound to bad either i was afraid it be more.
Remember one thing that many folks who have been on this forum for a long time will constantly state that slabbing a coin does not increase the value of the coin. Just like companies trying to sell you slabbed coins that say "first release" for an extreme price...just not worth it. my two cents for what's it worth :kewl: -shrek
ok, one more question then and thank you for all your replys. say i plan on holding onto all of my coins for a good 30+ years, hopefully by then silver prices will be up there for pushing slabbed coin a bit further as well, taking and gradding the coin now whlie its in such great condition for future purposes would be smart would it not. sorry for the persistency of the topic, i am new to the hole thing and only wish to learn as much as posible.
Why would the condition worsen if you have it a safe/secured container or even a DANSCO album? Toning on the coin does not devalue the coin. As long as you store it in an area where you wont be moving the coin (s) the condition of the coin shall remain the same no matter how new/old it is.
While that is technically true, slabbing does have value. If you bring an NGC or PCGS coin to a dealer that is graded MS65, he will probably give you MS65 money. If you bring in a raw MS65, the two of you will haggle over the grade with you insisting it is MS65 and him telling you that because of his years of experience, it is no better than MS63, or worse, AU. But I agree that bullion coins are not worth slabbing.
What sweeper says is true. But consider, if the coin is worth $20 in AU condition, and $30 in MS65 condition, and slabbing cost you $20 or more, it is foolish to get it graded and slabbed. I'll say it again, save slabbing for coins that are worth over $100 raw.
I like and have a few panda's too but I did want them graded so I only buy them that way because someone sent them in for the bulk rate saving tons on grading and I get the 69's so it's not much over bullion and graded
And that is an excellent point. If you've got to have graded examples of bullion for your collection, buy 'em that way.......:smile
