Coin error

    This penny looks like someone or something did this to this penny, but on the backside is in perfect condition. How can that be. Makes me think its a error coin. What do you think? In the last pic. You can see some letters in the broken crack. Man made or not

    The zinc core under the thin copper plating is corroding. Zinc is very reactive and will do this if the plating is breached and it is exposed to the right environmental conditions. It's not a mint error.

    It is not a Mint Error.. Just an issue on the plating that occurred after it left the US Mint.
