I am pretty liberal, but this case seems open and shut to me (if the facts turn out to be as presented).

I don't think he meant it that way I think it was a rhetorical remark. This kind of story is very common and you have a mother on TV stating how good a boy he was and blab blab... Then you find out he's spent time in jail for this and that and has been given every opportunity to do what is right but keeps doing the same thing over and over. I am so tired of this and it just keeps getting worst. Ice

Maybe if they stopped locking up all of those XBOX playing stoners there would be enough room in prison that guys like that wouldn't get parolled so often and so soon.

Is there any evidence that this guy was out on parole because a non violent stoner had his bed in prison? I agree with you in principle but I doubt that is the case here. Regardless, with multiple felonies he should have never been on the street, xbox playing stoner got his bed or not.

To be sure, I have no sympathy for the man whose actions and choices led to his being killed. In the same circumstances I would have done the same without blinking (and I do have a CCL that I take advantage of). However, taking out his family too seems a bit extreme and would serve no purpose whatsoever. That may have been the way the Hitler, Stalin and Idi Amin did it but I would like to think that you and I are a bit more civilized than that.

I'm just going by what others said about his past crimes and getting out of jail. In general, this types of scumbags get early paroll because of prison overcrowding. And I think some of that could be solved by prioritizing who gets hard time in the joint and who doesn't. But thats all I'm going to say before I get reprimanded for talking politics in the wrong area.

I think if I made any further comments my views would get me banned and I like being here. The knowledge I get here is worth more than my views both political and other. Tim

I am sure our good Moderator was speaking figuratively in his comments on the perp's family. Where were these folks when the punk was devolving into a life of crime? Where was their sense of outrage when he was commiting multiple felonies? How dare these people gather to intimidate the victims.
To me, the only injustice here is that the other perpetrator escaped. Those guys at the coin shop need some additional marksmanship training. They are suffering the common symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Perhaps some range time would make them feel better. If I knew how to contact them, I would send them a note of sympathy and support. Let's hope their legal fees don't put them out of business.

One big problem with stories like this one is they appear in so few news media reports. If you get the NRA magazine, there are stories like this all the time. If you read most newspapers, all you see is how guns kill poor, inocent, nice, wonderful, honest people. In the Chicago area the Mayor would only allow anything dealing with how bad guns are to be newsworthy. A store owner that protects himself usually ends up in law suit. Guns are not allowed to be sold in any stores. Only criminals are allowed to have them.
I guess the reasoning here is if you keep on killing criminals, the jails would slowly become empty and so many people that work there would be out jobs. See how crime is important. :):smile
