I can relate Houston...my wife tells me on a regular basis I am the supreme geek, that I'm an old man (I'm 31, same as her) and that a buffalo nickel is still only worth 5 cents if you stick it in a vending machine. My kids are more forgiving, they are young. When they are teenagers I'm sure I'll reign with the geeks. My 3 year old has the most enthusiasm for coins. I let him play with my pocket change and a jar and he has a blast. He'd like to play with the other ones too, but I keep em in a fire safe. I collect pretty much for the joy of it, I don't care that my statehoods are AU instead of MS. I don't have anything slabbed but I do like airtites. I would like to see my collection prove viable for my kids if none of them embrace the hobby though. I just think of it like a treasure though. It's fun to discover, and it's fun to hunt. I like searching bankrolls and I think someday I'd like a metal detector. I play around cleaning junk coins to help me tell what's the real deal and what's doctored. I'm starting to come out of the U.S. shell and look at world coins. It's very overwhelming. I don't see the excitement going away, but I see it getting harder to find a thrill. I tell my wife this beats scratch-off tickets hands down. I don't hang out at the bar and I don't go to the strip club. I pester bank tellers and hang at the coin shop. She still picks on me. She accepts it though, thank goodness.
