Anyone have any coin collecting related injuries, like: Smashing/cut finger when breaking up Proof lenses? Jamming thumb trying to get that 41S cent into the Whitman folder? Dropping a box with 50 coin rolls on a toe? etc...?
My grandfather knew two guys that died trying to collect coins. He was responsible for payroll at National Ice Company back in the "old" old days when they actually harvested ice from the Truckee river and sent it down to Sacramento by rail. In 1919 two men attempted to rob the payroll that had just arrived via rail which was in gold and silver coin (He always said they hated paper money). Anyhow, long story short - they tried to rob the payroll, and he shot them... He also taught me how to shoot when I was young, just in case anyone gets any ideas about my gold and silver coins...
- Paper cut from opening packages of coins - Stabbing myself with a flat head whilst opening an Air-tite - Strained bloodshot eyes from eBay raw coin hunting - Heightened blood pressure as bids increase in the last few moments of eBay bidding
No injuries to report, but I have done a few boo boos to other things. I used to open all packages at my desk, but after my daughter was born I started doing it on my couch, while watching her. I have accidentally cut our fabric ottoman when cutting open a box. Oops. A few years ago I was breaking a really nice $2 1/2 out of a self slab holder, and the coin shifted in the holder while I was working the metal cutters, and I pretty much sliced it in half. Funny thing is, I still sold it for a profit. I was surprised how much people would pay for a half cut gold coin, haha.
Needed to go to the chiropractor after attempting to move my safe one time. That really hurt and was pretty stupid of me.
Does this include injuries sustained when my wife discovers how much I actually paid for certain coins? Lol
Does slowly going blind count from looking at all of the blurry photos that people think are good enough to post in their threads? Chris
hands cringing from seeing new peoples cleaned and polished and buffed coins to shiny... thinking a shiny coin is a valuable coin here on CT. AAAAAArrrrggghhhhh. that kills me.
