How quickly things change! I just this morning bought a coin that, in my opinion, could benefit from a little cleaning and TLC. In my opinion this bronze would look better with some of the encrustations removed, particularly around the obverse detail. There are also a couple a of small spots of bronze disease. Still, I may or may not go there for fear of ruining a very nice specimen for the type..
In my opinion that one is already extremely nice as is. You never know what you're bound to find when you start to remove patina and encrustations. I say just treat for the BD and leave the rest alone.
Thanks for your reply @Sallent. I dont mean to hijack the thread by posting a coin but hopefully it helps illustrate a point. Whether I should attempt to remove those sandy colored deposits comes down to my comfort level, experience and understanding of the risk vs. reward of messing with an already good thing.
That's a fantastic coin! I'd just soak it in a puddle of Verdicare and call it done-- keeping an eye on it every few months.
