I have 20 great grandchildren and more than 70 years accumulation of coins. If you look at this link https://www.cointalk.com/threads/what-to-do-with-my-accumulation.341614/ you can see how I put together sets for all my great grand kids. That is a little much but it is a concept you can modify.
What you say is true. But, for the vast majority of coins in a set the "archival quality storage systems" are overkill. For key dates and grades you may want that. But for a set of pennies or nickels found in circulation any of those albums are more than sufficient. I have AU or better coins that have been in 2X2's for 50 years and look just like the day they were put in.
I showed her your accumulation photos she said thats what she wants. Her idea is to be able to add coins of the same year in differing grades and with errors, she loves toned coins and woodies.
Buy a box of pages for 2X2's and some 3 ring binders and let have at it. Get her a supply of 2X2's for pennies, nickels, dimes, etc. The 2X2's are sometime hard to get in and other times slip out easy. Let her have fun and keep us updated with the progress. Get her to visit with the experts here when she needs more help.
I think this will work great for her she loves to put her coins in the 2x2's she's pretty good at getting them in straight
I have some old Whitman Classics and some Danscos for my circulated coins. Any key dates or expensive coins that I buy are in slabs....I started out with those little blue folders too .....and a cleaning kit that I bought from my old coin dealer. It had two small bottles of solution and a little wire brush....I had alot to learn as a 14 year old newbie in 1979.
Here's the thing Bryan, basically all paper, cardboard, vinyl products, air, and moisture (in the form of humidity), and changes in temperature, are the enemies of coins. Eliminate those things and the coins will stay pretty much the way they are for a lifetime - her lifetime. And you eliminate those things with proper storage methods. Do not eliminate those those things and there's a high probability the coins will not look anything like they do now when she gets older. So where you, and she, go from here is up to you.
I used 2x2 flips 3 ring binders and a label maker! Time consuming, but looks neat and clean and legible, makes for nice presitation
There is the plastic type of lable maker too ,comes in different colors red for cents blue for nickels green for dimes and I used the black for quarters did a set of each my master sets in fact as I call them! Lots of fun and lots of quality time with my mom
There is this great Label Maker that I found that is great for labeling everything, including 2x2's. Staples is selling it now for $10 less than Amazon and with free shipping: https://www.staples.com/Brother-PT-D400-Label-Maker/product_1170367 She will probably have a lot of fun with it too and label everything around her LOL! You can tell her the tip about using a pliers to flatten the staples on her 2x2's so she doesn't get frustrated with the staple bumps that stick to the plastic pages making the 2x2's hard to remove sometimes. It's great that she's so into this. Enjoy that you can share it with her now! So many typical pre-teens and teens push parents away at this age. Enjoy!
