Hi all, This morning I took this cup of Cents off the hands of my morning coffee stand guy. For the longest whenever he gets Cents as payment he puts it into a cup to never use it. I noticed they have a film of grease on the surface which makes them feel sticky. Must be from cooking eggs on his grill.. I will go through them tonight and post my findings.
Don't agree with vigorous scrubbing, but a soak in hot soapy water (a squirt of dish washing liquid), followed by a gentle thumb & forefinger massage and rinse + cotton towel drying would render these sticky coins a lot more pleasant to handle - this is my MO for preparing bulk bags of junk silver for further sorting and handling - no more grey fingers
So here are the results... 1 Canada Cent 1970 5 Wheat Cents 1948, 1954, 1955, 1957 and 1958 1 minor Misaligned Die Strike 1982
The 1954 Wheat Cent is in suprisenly pretty good shape. I would even say it's RED (but greasy) Take a better look
So this somewhat proves my point made in another post over discontinuation of the cent.. .. yes as collectors we find value because we collect coins. Others have little or no use for the cent...willing to give them away or throw them away rather then dealing with them rolling and returning them to a bank. I can't recall the year but I recall some years back where a valuable cent was placed on a sidewalk. A film crew in a parked car filming a documentary on the venture to see if anyone would bend over to pick up a cent. After many hours and numerous people paying no mind. The news team tried a different approach to see if anyone would bite. Nada!
You should have left them sticky and made a sculpture out of them. An homage` to VCB and all of your loyal subjects here. You know... pennies when macaroni just won't do.
