There were some nice coins with three standards. I'll raise to four standards. Marcinus, 217-218 18 mm. 3.40 grams. IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG FIDES MILITVM RIC 68b. Sear 7334, struck "217".
I bought the first one from a dealer on ebay. I found it by searching for Roman coins and a junk dealer from the NW US was in the search. The coin was advertised as a Roman coin of Nero. I may have been the only bidder. Shipping was low. I put the button on my shelf to remind me to look better when buying. It also directed me from ebay to VCoins, CNG and Sixbid.
My favorite Nero coin celebrates the 'Certamen Quinquennale' festival, which included athletics, horse racing, and competitions in music and poetry. Æ Semis 2.86gm - 18mm Obv: NERO CAES AVG IMP Laureate head right Rev: CER QVINQ ROM CO S C, mark of value, urn, and wreath on table; two griffins facing each other on front panel, round shield resting below against leg. Congrats @Orfew !!! That's a wonderful coin!!! All the posts are terrific as well!! A couple of my Nero types, but no standards----an As and a Dupondius:
From the photo, I see no reason to doubt it. The style is correct. It could be a cast much abused to make it look like a real cull. It seems more likely that it is what it appears to be. Mine has a different legend but that is standard for Nero. His mints liked to make variations for collectors 2000 years later to think might be important.
Welcome @noname....it seems you are off to a nice start. When i was your age, pennies were about all I collected....and a few baseball cards
Well the coin arrived today and i am very happy. Although my poor photo skills do not do it justice, this coin looks much much better than the CNG photo. Here is my attempt at a better image. Yes it still needs work. The CNG photo
