Ive recently began collecting CWTs, along with other tokens from Canada and the UK. Here are some pieces. J.W. PEIRCE BUSINESS CARD - MI-370H-1A - R9 My first rare token. V. BLATZ LAGER BEER - WI-510E-1A - R2 1858 PROFESSOR HOLLOWAY TOKEN 1835 PRINCE EDWARDS ISLAND - SHIPS, COLONIES & COMMERCE TOKEN 1852 BANK OF UPPER CANADA HALF PENNY TOKEN
I was very hesitate to show this piece. Good luck tokens were very popular in the 1930s. And before WW2, the swastika was a sign of good luck, before the Nazis adapted it and now is known as a sign of hate. If it wasnt for the other lucky symbols on this token, I could never own this piece. Since they were popular in the time, there are many examples to be found. But to find one in this condition is quite rare. I hope this token doesnt offend anyone.
I read about this symbol once and you are correct. It is found throughout history before WWII especially in India. All these tokens are really nice!
Your Bank of Upper Canada token depicts St. George slaying the dragon. Someone a few days ago had a similar token with a huge number 5 on the reverse with no date or info. They were looking for ID for the token.
Im really green when it comes to tokens, so I havent heard anything about that one yet, but ill do some research and see what I can find.
I searched for hours with no luck. It's some kind of counter token. Maybe an antique coat check token. Where do you get your tokens from?
That John W Peirce is a great find. Any R-9 store card is hard to find. Love the Bank of Upper Canada Half Penny. A little Verdi-Care will stop those small spots of verdigris on the reverse.
He ruined that and the Charley Chaplin mustache! PS: of course he ruined the lives of millions, but I wanted to keep the post light.
That one's nice, but I'd rather have the token. I was bidding on some late last year, but the price was far more than I was willing to pay. I'm now officially on a hiatus from purchasing coins, so it will have to wait.
A really fine selection of tokens, Clutchy. Always liked the Blatz and crossed flags CWT's. Keep 'em coming! Bruce
