Goodness! You left me hanging, Lord! Why? Why an interesting year? I had to go look. And, oh, my! You were not kidding around. 35 floirin minted! And 1,000 apparently minted but only 500 known of the half coroin.

Yes. I once completed the entire Irish predecimal series- all denominations- in the three (now out-of-print) Dansco albums. I had the 1943 halfcrown but not the florin. Since the '43 florins are so rare, Dansco had a cardboard plug in the album slot for that one, making it optional. So I can say I collected them all, except for that one optional rarity.

You had one of 500 known 1943 halfcrowns? Wow. I'm impressed. That just blows my mind. Especially when I consider how many the US Mint puts of of so many coins annually. Even 'collector only' or bullion coins, such as the ASE or the 2021 Morgans, for example.

I bought it around 2002 or 2003. In an old PCI photocertificate slab graded F15 (somewhat overgraded, in my opinion). Only cost me 150 bucks at the time. As I am sure you can imagine, I wish I had held on to that one!

I also could have bought one of the 35 known 1943 florins back then, but even then that would have been pricey. (Wish I'd done it now, however, and kept the coin.)

Irish predecimal coins are cool- there were lots of low mintages, with it being a small country and all. I had a lot of fun with those Dansco albums and still think about trying that again someday.

The random number generator has spoken, and the lucky number it drew was #65.

(That's my own lucky number I use a lot, as it happens. My birthyear. But I digress.)
