The prize for this contest will be an 1891-O Morgan dollar from the New Orleans Mint, which closed in 1909. It has a mark or two, and a small graffito on the reverse, but is otherwise a handsome circulated example.

*If you HAVE owned a Morgan dollar before, tell us about the first one you ever got, and name someone else to win this one. If your entry post is selected in the drawing, the person you name will receive the coin (regardless of whether or not they've ever owned one before).

I'd rather this go to someone who's never had one, you see. They don't need to be a kid. "Young at heart" is as good as young, as far as I'm concerned.

My first Morgan dollar was a semi-prooflike AU58-ish 1878-S which had been found in my paternal great-grandmother's secretary desk along with some other coins (I will eventually inherit the desk itself someday).

I was given that Morgan by my grandmother, for my 11th birthday on December 28, 1976, and held on to it until 1999, when my first nephew was born. I passed it on to my sister for him.
