    Now we come to...

    ROUND 2.

The prize is a second Roman bronze antoninianus of the emperor Aurelian. This one was struck between 270 and 275 AD. Like the previous coin, the obverse bears an armored bust of the emperor, wearing a radiate crown, while the reverse portrays Aurelian with Jupiter again.

(Oops- I forgot to flip the paper tag over to show the back of that. Oh well. You get the idea.)

Perhaps our ancient coin experts can chime in with further information about this coin.

To enter this round, all you need to do is:

    1. Say that you want it, and
    2. A word or two about why you want it or what you like about it.

If you do not want the coin for yourself, you may enter on someone else's behalf. Simply name the person you would like to have it if your entry wins the drawing.

Then, sometime in the next 1-3 days, we'll do the drawing and move on to the next round. This round is open for entries until such time as I announce the drawing.

You may follow the progress of the contest in the...

Round summary at the bottom of Post #1.

I want it since I didn't win the other Aurelian.

I found there are two obverse varieties. One with a wide upper body. This one is normal, not wide.

    Aurelian AE Antoninianus.

Obverse: IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, radiate, cuirassed bust right (normal upper body)
Reverse: IOVI CONSER, Emperor Aurelian standing right, holding sceptre and receiving globe from Jupiter, holding sceptre. Mintmark B.

This one certainly appears to have a wider bust than the Round 1 coin?

    I want that.

Still working on my "Ancient for an ancient" project, and this coin would make a perfect first ancient coin.

And I must say, naps are awesome; they are a critical component of our daily routine (on a good day).

I want it. I want it. I want it. Maybe repetitive I want its will improve my odds. ;)

It would still qualify as my first ancient. Although, it would qualify as my wife's second ancient. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I want that for @dwhiz ! Dennis is quite generous with giveaways too and expressed his interest in obtaining his first ancient in this very thread!

This one has little to do with the first. The second one, RIC 394 B, is found with normal and wide but shares the same RIC number. THIS one, the prize, is normal.

Scroll down a long ways and watch to left for two RIC 394 B coins.
    Select view thumbnails.

I see what you’re saying. I never took the time to browse Wildwinds on any of these, and do not own any printed references (RIC, et al).

Agreed, so here’s an extra entry for @dwhiz as well.

So far I don’t recall anybody actually winning from an extra bonus entry I put in for them in one of these contests, but one of these days the random number generator will hit on one of them!

BTW, as I got dressed for work tonight, my eye happened to fall upon the change dish on the top of my dresser. Lying on top of that, mixed in with all the Chain cents and Gobrecht dollars and Stellas I keep with my pocket change, there was a @dwhiz custom wooden nickel. (Or are they wooden dollars? Hmm. I forget. But anyway, the locomotive on ‘em is unforgettable.)
