LordM Giveaway #73 (win a large cent... IF you've never owned one before)

This contest is now CLOSED. The winner was announced in Post #46.

This contest is brought to you by the Trash Can Kitty Committee (Annabelle, Spooky Sue, and Gilligan, among many others not shown).
    imageedit_1_6463266082.png

This is a limited contest, open only to collectors (young or old) who have never before owned a United States large cent.

Large cents were produced from 1793 to 1857, so their heyday ended before the Civil War. Most of us are familiar with them, but if you're a coin roll hunter or collector of more modern coins, maybe you've never owned one. Here's your chance!

The prize here is an 1852 Braided Hair large cent. It is in lower grade (G4 to G6, I'd say), but is a wholesome example with what we old time collectors call "honest wear", meaning that it has no problems like the corrosion, scratches, or dents which often plagued these. Despite the modest grade, it's a pleasing example.

    To enter this contest:

    1. Type the words "entry post" at the top of your entry. You may reply to this thread multiple times, but only one entry post per contestant.

    2. Give us your word that you've never owned a large cent before. If you have, you're ineligible to win, but you may still post an entry for someone else - as long as they have never owned one.

    That's it!

You may also post whatever else you fancy (coin or car or pet pictures, etc.), as long as your entry post meets the two criteria above.

The winner should be selected by random number generator sometime this month (May, 2022), though if the drawing gets delayed by my absence, you may consider the contest open for entries until such time as I return and do the drawing.

As usual, there are no strings attached nor any shipping fee. If you're a minor, please have your parents' permission to share your mailing address, if you win.

    Numismatic Regards,

    ~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("lordmarcovan")

Sal- you're one of the lucky few who's dug one! I only found three in all my detecting days.

Most of my large cents have been dug, but not in many years.
    Most in the late 1990's.

    1803 Lg Date, Lg Fraction
    1806
    1816
    1817 (#2)
    1819
    1822
    1831
    1835
    1837
    1950
    1854

Granted, they have little value, but!
As metal detecting finds they are great.

Depends on how badly the ground damaged the 1803, that is a good one.

I'm not eligible, but here's a nice lowball 1850 that I recently sold on Instagram.

    Entry post.

I started collecting in small cents years ago and never made the jump to the large ones.

I've never owned a large cent, but I do have one of these somewhere...

    ENTRY POST

I'm a geriatric that has never owned any US LC. This would be a first and I'd be very honored to be the caretaker for this part of its life.

    Thanks again Rob.

Sorry Rob, no dog, no cat, no coin, just my darling granddaughter :)

Never owned one, never even held one. To win one of any condition, it would hold a special place among my coins.

Does owning an English large penny count? I've got many "large cents" from other countries, but do not, and never have, owned a US large cent.

Is it pick-up day and the cats are waiting for the debris that falls out when they transfer the trash to the truck? LOL

British large pennies don’t count. Only US large cents, in this instance. You’ve never had one, so you’re eligible to win this one.

Oh, and regarding the Trash Can Kitties, we feed them on top of the bins because putting their food on the ground invites stray dogs and possums.

Am entering this on behalf of my 3 young nephews - brothers - who are young child collectors whose parents don't allow them to be members of mostly-adult groups like CT. They do not own large cents.

If an Entry Post can be allowed for each of them, then this post is for:

    nephew #1
    nephew #2
    nephew #3

    (In order of age.)

    Thank you very much!

Here is a pet I would like, but never will have: :penguin: Penguins are so cute! But what on Earth would I do with it? My potential pet penguin is better off in it's natural habitat with all it's friends and relatives. Or maybe in a zoo or aquarium. Here's a an old comic strip about visiting the zoo from Bill Watterson:
