Right! I thought it was just me but I don't like to see coins like that. It's just my opinion, of course, but if you can't slip them out every now and then to admire them, what's the point? Again, just my opinion...

Are you familiar with this coin? Georvis Triumphos? If you are then I’m sure you know the story behind it. 8264774B-C3F1-4CA1-85B6-E0F0EEB4DAFE.jpeg

Yes, they're listed in the Colonial section of the Red Book.

There is no such thing as a "1910" Washington quarter, as that type was first struck in 1932. His coin there is a 1940 which someone carefully carved (altered the 4) to make it look like it said "1910", for some interesting but unknown reason.

It might have been someone who was born in 1910 but for whatever reason, he couldn't get a 1910 Barber quarter, which was the type actually made in 1910.

so you know about the issue with the bust.

I found this at the homesite of Daniel McGirts who was an officer in the Revolution Army but became a turncoat and joined the British. After the war he could not return home so he got a Spanish land grant in NE Florida and started a plantation and then became a pirate.

They were known to have been used in Virginia, South Carolina and Bermuda and SUSPECTED to have been used in Florida. About the same time I found this another detectorist in St Augustine found one in similar shape and we are jointly credited with proving its use down here. One of my favorite finds.

I knew a fellow who “found” a 1943s penny while metal detecting. Turned out to be a 1948s which somebody altered. Experts said it was one of the best forgeries they had seen.

Pic of two pocket pieces i carry. The Ike I've had since the mid-80's and the Peace Dollar I've had for around ten years. both were bank pick ups for a dollar each.
I believe the Ike had been a casino coin, and i'd like to believe the Peace Dollar had been a pocket piece or challenge coin, eventually turned into the bank by an heir.
