Went to the quarter car wash this weekend. Found myself sorting thru $10 worth of quarters from the change machine rather than washing anything. Didn't find anything great so just blew water all over the place trying to wash off a drop saw I'm cleaning up to cut obsidian.
I'll wait to see what LM has if I happen to win.

I bought this when I was about 12, which means I have possessed it for about 23.4% of its existence. When I bought it I had no idea I would become a teacher and use it often as a "show and tell" in my history and economics classes.

Oh your such a wonderful teacher. I would of remembered that show and tell forever. That’s what I’m talking about. Hope it was our youngest youth in your a history teacher. Cuz you know some kids going to say something about 7-4-1776. And if I was young youth. I’d be waiting the whole class To hear this. TEACH me this. Once a year. Maybe even show them a flag. Sucks to get old. Oh I see Older teens +. Yeah they need the history boost also. The worlds a changing. Nice post

Cheech. You should check out this books-on-tape from the library. You would really like it as it shows how terribly lucky we are to be the US.

My apologies for not posting the back. I took the photo years ago for a classroom need, and somehow failed to photograph the reverse. It is now in a safe deposit box, and with covid it is a real hassle to get an appointment to see my collection. The reverse is the design with "WE ARE ONE" in a chain with with the names of the colonies abbreviated on the links.

That's how long I've had custody of it (actually 58 of its 244 years; the .234 is a rounded figure). As a collector for many years, I have come to appreciate that I don't really own these things. I have the privilege to have possession of them, like the curators at a museum. Whether I sell them or bequeath them, someone else will have them someday. The only things I truly own are the the things I can take into eternity with me, for good or ill. But I often wonder who else before me had possession of them and where they have been. My ancient coins were undoubtedly buried in the ground for centuries, or even millennia, doing their "owners" no good whatsoever for most of that time. A few coins (none I can afford) come with long provenances, but most are anonymous and refuse to tell their whole stories. Like this sixth of a dollar. I'd love to know whose hands it passed through when it was still, in theory, money, and why it survived the redemption period, and who has had it since.
