I&#039;ll reiterate my story from last giveaway: Because it would commemorate a great spring event that I took part in. This past April 2024, my wife and I volunteered to help excavate at the Roman Vindolanda Fort, near Hadrian&#039;s wall in northern England. It was a great two weeks of work, digging up a 3rd/4th Century Roman Fort, finding walls, roads, pottery, jewelry, and yes, even Roman Coins!!! Unfortunately, they wouldn&#039;t let us keep any of the coins we found, so this would be a nice commemorative of the time I spent there. And, this actually looks like one of the coins that were found while we were there (the one I found was too mucked up with mud to identify, and they didn&#039;t want us to clean them)!</p><p><br /></p><p>Here&#039;s one thing that I did find, that you can probably see at the Vindolanda Museum! It&#039;s a 4th Century metal and glass Brooch. And, the clasping mechanism on the back was still in tact, and operable! It&#039;s dirty in this pic, but they&#039;ll clean it up before putting it in the museum.
